Deepal Hunter K50 hybrid ute Australia may soon become a reality as Deepal considers expanding its range with models that appeal to local buyers. Although not confirmed yet, the brand has shown interest in introducing a Ford Ranger competitor.
At the 2025 Melbourne Motor Show, Deepal Australia General Manager Cormac Cafolla shared the company’s intentions. He stated that Deepal always looks for the right opportunity. Cafolla noted that Changan and Deepal offer a wide variety of vehicles that could suit Australian drivers. If a model fits the market, Deepal will push to bring it in.
One strong candidate is the Hunter K50, a mid-size hybrid ute. It combines a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine with two electric motors. This powertrain offers an electric range of 131km. When the diesel engine kicks in, the total range extends to 900km. If launched, it would become Australia’s first range-extender electric ute.
The Hunter K50 wouldn’t be alone in the hybrid ute space. The GWM Cannon Alpha and BYD Shark 6 have already introduced hybrid systems. Later this year, Ford plans to launch a plug-in hybrid version of the Ranger. Other brands like Mitsubishi and Nissan are also preparing hybrid options for the Triton and Navara.
Deepal entered the Australian market in 2024 with the S07 SUV. This year, it plans to launch the E07 SUV-ute crossover and the compact S05 SUV. The brand is clearly working to build a strong local presence.
The Deepal Hunter K50 hybrid ute would target a key segment. Utes make up about 20% of all new car sales in Australia. A capable, fuel-efficient hybrid ute could attract many buyers, especially those looking for lower emissions and long driving range.
Deepal’s success will depend on more than just specs. To compete with Ford and others, it will need strong pricing, service support, and smart marketing. But if it ticks those boxes, the Hunter K50 could become a real contender in the growing hybrid ute market.
