China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has released new regulatory filings. These reveal major upgrades for the BYD Denza Z9 and Z9GT. Most notably, both models will now offer over 1,000 km of range under the CLTC cycle. This leap comes from larger battery packs and refined powertrains.
Buyers can choose between two battery options: 102 kWh or 122 kWh. On the Denza Z9, the 102 kWh pack delivers 905 km of range. Meanwhile, the 122 kWh version pushes that to 1,068 km, depending on the configuration.
The Z9GT also sees significant gains. With the 102 kWh battery, it reaches 880 km. Moreover, the 122 kWh unit extends that to 1,036 km. Although these figures may vary slightly by powertrain, all variants now exceed 800 km—and many surpass the 1,000 km mark.
Powertrain options are expanding as well. Both models will offer a base single-motor setup with 496 hp. In addition, the Z9GT introduces a high-performance tri-motor variant. It produces a massive 1,140 hp, making it one of the most powerful electric sedans available today.
Surprisingly, the filings also confirm a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version of the Z9GT. It features a 63.82 kWh battery—unusually large for a PHEV. As a result, it enables a pure electric range of 400 km under CLTC standards.
Exterior changes remain minimal. However, the main update is a repositioned LiDAR sensor on the roof. This enhancement supports more advanced driver-assistance systems. Furthermore, the Z9GT gains an active rear spoiler and a fixed roof spoiler. These additions improve aerodynamics and high-speed stability.
Together, these upgrades position the BYD Denza Z9 range as a leader in the premium EV segment. With class-leading range, scalable performance, and intelligent technology, BYD is clearly targeting both domestic and global markets.
As production ramps up, the Denza Z9 and Z9GT could redefine luxury EV expectations. Ultimately, over 1,000 km of real-world range is no longer just a promise—it’s becoming a tangible reality.
