Mercedes AMG CLE Extreme Coupe Teased

[Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 4MATIC+ | Kraftstoffverbrauch kombiniert: 9,7-9,3 l/100 km | CO₂-Emissionen kombiniert: 220-212 g/km]* Exterieur: graphitgrau magno; Interieur: schwarz mit roten Ziernähten. // [Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 4MATIC+| fuel consumption combined: 9,7-9,3 l/100 km | CO₂-emissions combined: 220-212 g/km]* exterior: graphite grey magno; interior: black with red stitching

The Mercedes AMG CLE is entering a new phase as the brand teases an extreme, limited-run coupe that goes beyond the expected CLE 63. Already, Mercedes has hinted that this model will not follow traditional naming conventions. Instead, it will sit within the exclusive Mythos series, making it one of the most distinctive AMG creations to date.

From the outset, the Mercedes AMG CLE project signals a shift in strategy. While the current CLE 53 delivers 443 horsepower, AMG is clearly preparing something far more aggressive. Early expectations suggest a V8-powered coupe producing around 650 horsepower. As a result, this new model aims to restore the brand’s reputation for high-performance engines after recent downsizing criticism.

Visually, the Mercedes AMG CLE retains the familiar coupe silhouette but adds sharper, track-focused elements. The signature Panamericana grille remains prominent. In addition, the front bumper features larger air intakes and aerodynamic detailing. These changes give the car a more purposeful stance.

At the rear, the transformation becomes even more obvious. A large, likely adjustable wing dominates the design. Furthermore, quad exhaust tips and a compact diffuser underline the car’s performance intent. Together, these elements suggest a machine built for both speed and presence.

Mercedes has kept the car partially hidden under camouflage. However, teaser images reveal several advanced features. For instance, dive planes on the front bumper and extended side skirts improve airflow. Meanwhile, vents on the fenders and bumper enhance cooling. Consequently, the Mercedes AMG CLE appears engineered for serious performance rather than just visual impact.

Inside, the Mercedes AMG CLE is expected to build on the standard CLE layout. The large infotainment display will likely remain. However, AMG-specific materials and finishes should elevate the cabin. In addition, buyers can expect extensive customization options due to the model’s limited production.

Interestingly, teaser images hint at structural changes within the cabin. A roll cage or reinforcement appears where the rear seats would normally sit. This feature may improve rigidity and safety. At the same time, it reinforces the car’s track-focused character.

Powertrain details remain unconfirmed. Nevertheless, the Mercedes AMG CLE is widely expected to feature a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine. This decision would mark a clear return to AMG’s traditional performance formula. Previously, the brand considered a four-cylinder hybrid setup. However, customer feedback appears to have influenced a change in direction.

Estimates suggest the engine could produce up to 646 horsepower. That figure represents a major increase over the CLE 53. Moreover, the powertrain will likely pair with AMG’s nine-speed automatic transmission. The 4Matic+ all-wheel-drive system is also expected to come standard. As a result, the coupe should deliver both strong acceleration and stable handling.

Pricing for the Mercedes AMG CLE will reflect its exclusivity. While the CLE 53 starts at around $77,650, this new model will sit much higher. In fact, analysts expect a starting price well above $100,000. Given the limited production run of about 30 units, the final cost could exceed $150,000 or even $200,000.

The car’s placement within the Mythos series adds further prestige. This sub-brand focuses on ultra-limited, high-value vehicles. The AMG PureSpeed, for example, was restricted to just 250 units. Therefore, the Mercedes AMG CLE will likely follow a similar approach, targeting collectors and loyal AMG clients.

Timing remains uncertain, but the reveal appears imminent. Mercedes showcased a near-production model in early teaser images. Based on past launches, the company may debut the coupe at a major summer event. This approach would allow potential buyers to view the car in person before deliveries begin.

Ultimately, the Mercedes AMG CLE represents more than just a faster coupe. It reflects AMG’s response to shifting customer expectations. By returning to a V8 and emphasizing exclusivity, Mercedes is reinforcing its performance heritage. At the same time, it is testing how far it can push the limits of luxury and performance in a rapidly evolving market.
