The arrival of the Geely E2 marks a significant step in expanding affordable electric mobility in South Africa. Positioned as an entry-level electric vehicle, the model aims to attract urban drivers who seek a balance between cost, practicality, and modern features.
Geely Auto has introduced the Geely E2 in two specification grades, Aspire and Apex. According to product leadership, the vehicle focuses on urban mobility, combining compact dimensions with a practical electric range and connected technology.
The Geely E2 sits on a dedicated electric platform, which allows for a flat cabin floor and improved interior space. Measuring 4,135 mm in length and 1,805 mm in width, with a wheelbase of 2,650 mm, the car maintains a compact footprint while maximizing passenger comfort. As a result, it suits city environments where space efficiency matters.
Inside, the Geely E2 features a modern digital layout. A 14.6-inch infotainment screen dominates the dashboard, while an 8.8-inch instrument display provides essential driving information. In addition, storage options remain practical, with a 375-litre boot that expands to 1,320 litres. A 70-litre front trunk adds extra versatility.
Performance focuses on efficiency rather than outright power. The Geely E2 uses a rear-mounted electric motor that produces 85 kW and 150 Nm of torque. This setup delivers smooth acceleration suitable for daily commuting. At the same time, rear-wheel drive adds balance and driving stability.
The battery system plays a central role in the vehicle’s appeal. Equipped with a 39.4 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, the Geely E2 offers a range of up to 325 kilometers under WLTP conditions. This range covers most daily urban driving needs, making the vehicle practical for routine use.
Charging flexibility further enhances usability. AC charging allows the battery to reach full capacity in about 6.5 hours. Meanwhile, DC fast charging can take the battery from 30 percent to 80 percent in approximately 25 minutes, with a peak charging rate of 70 kW. Therefore, drivers can recharge quickly during short stops.
The Geely E2 also includes Vehicle-to-Load functionality. This feature enables the car to power external devices, adding value for users who need portable energy for tools, appliances, or outdoor activities.
Connectivity remains a strong focus. The vehicle supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, and 4G integration. These features ensure seamless smartphone connectivity and access to digital services. Higher-spec versions also include a 360-degree camera system, which improves visibility and parking safety.
Safety equipment comes standard across the range. Features include anti-lock braking, electronic stability control, traction control, six airbags, and tyre pressure monitoring. In addition, the Apex variant introduces advanced driver assistance systems such as adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, and lane departure warning.
Pricing positions the Geely E2 competitively within the entry-level EV segment. The Aspire model starts at R339,900, while the Apex variant is priced at R389,900. These figures place the vehicle within reach of a broader range of consumers compared to many higher-end electric models.
Geely Auto continues to expand its footprint in the region. The company currently operates 32 dealerships in South Africa and plans to grow its network to 40 by the end of 2026. This expansion supports greater accessibility and after-sales service for new customers.
Ultimately, the Geely E2 reflects a broader shift in the automotive market. As electric vehicles become more accessible, entry-level models will play a crucial role in accelerating adoption. By focusing on affordability, practicality, and modern features, Geely positions the E2 as a strong contender in the evolving EV landscape.
