The SUV boom has nearly erased the humble station wagon, but Skoda thinks otherwise. At the Munich Auto Show, the brand revealed the Skoda Vision O, a striking concept that proves wagons still have a future.

A Preview of the Electric Octavia

Skoda confirmed the Vision O previews the next-generation Octavia. The Octavia remains Skoda’s best-selling car and financial backbone. Instead of abandoning the model, the brand is reinventing it for the electric era.

The electric Octavia is expected by 2028 and will keep its long-roof wagon shape. It will ride on the advanced SSP platform, shared with the future Volkswagen ID. Golf. With this move, Skoda shows that practicality and style can thrive in electric form.

Exterior Design

The Vision O adopts Skoda’s “Modern Solid” design language, also seen on the new Epiq. Its front features sharp lines, squared-off fenders, and a unique light signature Skoda calls the “tech-loop.” The blacked-out rear pillar and concave LED tailgate highlight its bold stance.

Some features remain auto show concepts, such as the rear-hinged back doors. However, most details look ready for production. The design signals that Skoda wants to bring more presence to its family-friendly wagon.

Interior Innovation

Inside, the Vision O feels futuristic. The dashboard removes the traditional instrument cluster. Instead, a 1.2 m-wide “Horizon Display” stretches across the base of the windshield. Inspired by BMW, it delivers key driving info in a minimalist style.

A portrait touchscreen floats at the center of the dash. Below it, a console houses dual wireless phone chargers and a rotary dial with haptic feedback. Skoda also adds “Laura,” its built-in AI voice assistant. Together, these features create a driver-focused yet modern cabin.

Space and Practicality

True to wagon tradition, the Vision O prioritizes space. At 4,850 mm, it is 152 mm longer than today’s Octavia wagon. That added length gives passengers more room and expands cargo capacity to 650 liters. Families will find it a capable hauler.

Clever concept touches include an integrated refrigerator, a portable Bluetooth speaker, and even four umbrellas hidden inside. While not all may reach production, they showcase Skoda’s focus on lifestyle-driven details.

Electric Power and Future Plans

Skoda has not shared full powertrain specs, but the SSP platform supports 800-volt fast charging. This means the electric Octavia could achieve extremely quick charging times. The platform is also engineered for performance, and Skoda is expected to release a sporty vRS version with more power and sharper styling.

Adding to its tech ambitions, Skoda is co-developing advanced software with Rivian. This collaboration could deliver smarter driving features and seamless digital experiences for future models.

With the Skoda Vision O, the brand makes a clear statement: the station wagon still matters. By blending bold design, electric performance, and modern tech, Skoda is reimagining its most important model for the next decade. For wagon fans, the future looks bright.
