The Leapmotor B05 EV made its world debut at the IAA Mobility Show in Munich. Backed by Stellantis, the new Chinese electric hatchback is designed to take on established rivals such as the Volkswagen ID.3 and MG4, while offering aggressive pricing.
Bold Design for Younger Buyers
Shown in a striking yellow finish, the B05 combines sleek proportions with sporty details. Frameless doors, dark-tinted headlights connected by a slim trim piece, and a full-width LED taillight bar give it a premium look. Its 19-inch glossy black wheels add to the athletic stance. For 2026, Leapmotor will launch an “Ultra” trim with a more aggressive splitter and a larger rear wing.
At 4,430 mm long, 1,880 mm wide, and 1,520 mm tall, the B05 fits squarely in the compact hatchback category. A 2,735 mm wheelbase ensures a spacious cabin despite its sleek profile. Compared with the B10 crossover, the B05 is shorter and lower but still shares the same wheelbase.
Platform and Performance
The B05 uses Leapmotor’s LEAP3.5 platform, the same as the B10. It features a single electric motor producing 215 hp (160 kW) and 240 Nm of torque. Buyers will be able to choose between two battery packs: 56.2 kWh or 67.1 kWh. In the larger B10, the bigger battery delivers a WLTP-estimated 434 km range. Thanks to its lighter weight and aerodynamic design, the B05 may achieve equal or slightly better range figures.
Stellantis engineers helped tune the chassis, adding a 50:50 weight balance and a multi-link rear suspension. These features, more common in premium vehicles, should improve handling and ride comfort.
Interior and Tech
Although Leapmotor didn’t reveal the cabin at Munich, expectations remain high. The B05 should feature a large central touchscreen powered by the Snapdragon 8155 chip. Running Leap OS 4.0 Plus, the system promises fast responses for navigation, media, and vehicle settings.
Pricing Strategy
Pricing has not been confirmed, but the Leapmotor B05 EV will slot below the B10 crossover, which starts at €29,900. That suggests an entry price close to €25,000. Such positioning will make it one of the most affordable electric hatchbacks in Europe.
This aggressive strategy undercuts the Volkswagen ID.3, priced from €33,330 in Germany, by a wide margin. With strong equipment, modern design, and Stellantis-backed engineering, the B05 could appeal directly to budget-conscious buyers.
The European EV market has grown competitive, but the Leapmotor B05 EV enters with key advantages: value, space, and design. By combining affordable pricing with solid range and youthful styling, Leapmotor hopes to win customers away from traditional players.
If it delivers on its promises, the B05 may become one of the most disruptive EV launches in Europe’s compact hatchback market.
