The updated BYD FCB Tai 3 all-electric off-road SUV has appeared in China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) database. Although the exterior stays the same, BYD has upgraded both the powertrain and driver assistance systems. Moreover, the company now offers optional lidar to enable more advanced autonomous functions.
Customers can choose between rear-wheel drive (RWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD). In the RWD version, maximum power jumps from 160 kW (215 hp) to 240 kW (322 hp). Consequently, its 0–100 km/h acceleration time should fall below 7.9 seconds.
For the AWD model, BYD pairs a 135 kW (181 hp) front motor with a 240 kW (322 hp) rear motor. Together, they deliver 375 kW (503 hp) and 510 Nm of peak torque. Previously, the motors produced only 110 kW and 200 kW, so this marks a major performance leap.
At this stage, BYD has not released new battery or range details. However, the current models use either a 65.28 kWh pack (RWD) or 72.96/78.72 kWh packs (AWD), all based on Blade battery technology. These provide a CLTC range of 501 km across the lineup.
In addition to stronger performance, the updated BYD FCB Tai 3 now includes optional lidar. This strongly suggests it will support a higher tier of BYD’s “God’s Eye” driver assistance system. Right now, the base version uses DiPilot 100 (God’s Eye C), which relies on five millimeter-wave radars, 12 ultrasonic sensors, and 12 cameras. With lidar, the vehicle could unlock features like highway pilot and urban navigation assist.
Visually, the SUV remains unchanged. It keeps its dimensions—4,605 mm long, 1,900 mm wide, and 1,720 mm tall—with a 2,745 mm wheelbase. The front still uses a closed black grille and a trapezoidal bumper. Likewise, the rear retains vertical taillights, an external spare tire cover, and a matching trapezoidal bumper.
Furthermore, buyers will find new customization choices. These include different bumper finishes and roof rack colors, giving them more ways to personalize the rugged look.
As of January 15, 2026, the FCB brand has sold over 300,000 vehicles. The Tai 3 has played a key role in that success by offering an affordable, capable electric off-roader. Now, with these upgrades, BYD aims to attract even more adventure-focused EV buyers who want both power and smart technology.
