Honda has unveiled plans to begin sales of its new electric two‑wheeler, the Honda UC3, in Vietnam and Thailand this spring as part of its strategy to capitalise on the growing shift to electric vehicles (EVs) in Southeast Asia.
The Honda UC3 electric two‑wheeler is designed as a fixed‑battery electric commuter equivalent to a 110cc internal combustion engine (ICE) motorcycle. It marks Honda’s first use of a fixed‑type lithium‑ion phosphate battery, demonstrating the company’s commitment to advancing EV technology for urban mobility.
Charging Standards and Options
In a notable move for EV infrastructure, the UC3 adopts “CHAdeMO for two‑wheelers”, a charging standard developed by the CHAdeMO Association. This international specification supports fast and versatile charging, helping riders access reliable power wherever they travel. Honda will offer two charger types for UC3 owners:
- 1200W fast charger
- 450W standard charger
These options aim to suit a variety of charging environments and rider needs.
Production and Market Plans
Production of the UC3 began in December 2025 at Thai Honda Co., Ltd. The electric scooter will be supplied to both Thailand and Vietnam, with plans for local production in Vietnam through Honda Vietnam Co., Ltd.. Throughout 2026, Honda intends to build a supply system that aligns with the rapid electrification of the motorcycle market in Vietnam.
Expanding EV Infrastructure
To support the UC3 launch, Honda is actively expanding charging infrastructure for fixed‑battery electric motorcycles in both countries:
In Vietnam:
- Honda has begun installing charging stations at its motorcycle dealerships in major cities including Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Danang.
- These charging stations are expected to be operational from June 2026, improving convenience for EV riders.
In Thailand:
- Honda plans to increase the number of CHAdeMO for two‑wheelers charging stations, especially around Bangkok, at both Honda dealerships and popular shopping malls.
Supporting Swappable Battery Options
Alongside the UC3 rollout, Honda will continue enhancing the environment for electric motorcycles using swappable batteries. The company’s Honda Mobile Power Pack e: battery supports a future‑ready ecosystem where riders can swap batteries rather than wait for charging.
To accelerate this model, Honda will expand installations of Honda e:Swap BATTERY STATIONs at dealerships in Hanoi and Bangkok, offering greater flexibility for riders who prefer swappable battery solutions.
A Step Towards Electrified Mobility
By launching the Honda UC3 electric two‑wheeler and expanding the charging infrastructure in Vietnam and Thailand, Honda is positioning itself to meet rising demand for accessible and reliable ev motorcycle options. The company’s dual approach — fixed and swappable battery support — aims to cater to a broad segment of riders, encouraging the transition to electric mobility across Southeast Asia.
This latest initiative not only strengthens Honda’s regional EV presence but also underscores the importance of robust charging networks in building consumer confidence and accelerating adoption of electric two‑wheelers.
