History
Formation and Early Development
In September 2022, GAC Aion announced plans to expand its portfolio with a new premium electric vehicle brand called Hyper. The goal was to create high-end EVs that feature advanced technology, luxury, and superior performance, distinguishing them from GAC Aion’s mainstream models.
The first model under the Hyper brand was the Hyper SSR, a high-performance electric hypercar. Production of the SSR officially began in October 2023, marking GAC’s entry into the high-performance EV sector.
Expansion of the Hyper Lineup
By 2023, the Hyper lineup expanded with two additional models:
- Hyper GT – A premium electric sedan, first revealed in December 2022 and officially launched in July 2023.
- Hyper HT – A mid-size SUV coupe, introduced in October 2023, with sales starting in November 2023 in the Chinese market.
Rebranding to Hyptec
In August 2024, GAC Aion officially changed the brand name from Hyper to Hyptec, aligning with its focus on advanced EV technology and luxury positioning. Despite the rebranding, the existing models maintained their core engineering and market positioning.
