The 2026 Lucid Gravity has quickly made a name for itself as one of the most technologically advanced electric SUVs on the market. With its futuristic design, impressive driving capabilities, and cutting-edge tech, it has earned a spot as an Editor’s Choice at InsideEVs. But while it excels in many areas, its high price and a few software bugs keep it from reaching perfection.

Why Lucid Gravity Deserves Editor’s Choice

The Gravity is Lucid’s second vehicle, following the success of the Air sedan. It takes everything that made the Air a standout and packages it into a more practical and versatile SUV. The Gravity is an all-in-one vehicle: a road-trip champ, a canyon carver, a family hauler, and a powerful performer, all rolled into one.

With an EPA-rated range of 450 miles in its Grand Touring trim, the Gravity places itself in a rarefied group of long-range EVs. Lucid’s focus on efficiency allows the Gravity to achieve this range with a 123-kilowatt-hour battery pack, making it lighter and more space-efficient than competitors like the Cadillac Escalade IQ.

Charging and Performance: Setting New Standards

The Gravity also shines when it comes to charging. With a peak charge rate of 400 kilowatts, it can add 200 miles of range in just 11 minutes. This makes it the fastest-charging EV available in the U.S., and it uses a 926-volt architecture, which is far more advanced than the typical 400V or 800V system used by most other EVs.

The Touring model I tested offers impressive specs as well: 300 kW fast-charging and up to 337 miles of range from an 89 kWh battery pack. In fact, it can charge from 22% to 65% in just 19 minutes, a feat few EVs can match.

Interior and Driving Experience: Luxury Meets Fun

Despite its minivan-like appearance, the Gravity’s interior is a luxurious space that’s both functional and comfortable. The SUV feels much larger inside than expected, with a spacious cargo area, a frunk, and a second row that offers plenty of legroom. The third row is cleverly designed, folding flat into a sub-floor area when not in use to provide additional cargo space.

What truly sets the Gravity apart, however, is its driving experience. While many large EVs can feel sluggish, the Gravity glides effortlessly with smooth, predictable handling. It’s a joy to drive, whether cruising on highways or navigating winding canyon roads. The Gravity’s adjustable air suspension and direct steering make it an engaging drive, and with over 800 horsepower in the Grand Touring model, it’s a blast to accelerate on back roads.

Why It Didn’t Win Top Honors

Although the Gravity is an impressive vehicle, it didn’t quite earn the top spot this year. One major issue is the software bugs. While the Gravity’s screen-heavy interface is user-friendly, the in-cabin tech sometimes failed to work as expected. I personally struggled with the steering wheel-mounted cruise control buttons, which occasionally didn’t register clicks, and the display experienced glitches.

Lucid is actively working to address these issues through over-the-air software updates, and they’ve made significant progress. However, in our testing, the software issues were enough to keep it from receiving the highest praise.

Affordability and Value

Despite its impressive features, the Gravity’s price remains high. The Touring model starts at $81,550, and the Grand Touring version begins at $96,550, excluding options. This pricing puts the Gravity in the same range as high-end electric cars from brands like Porsche and Rivian. While it’s a great EV, the American market is looking for affordable electric cars that provide good value, and the Gravity’s six-figure price tag makes it difficult to break into the mainstream.

Lucid Gravity: The Future of Electric SUVs

The 2026 Lucid Gravity is a technological marvel with impressive specs and capabilities. Its futuristic design, fast-charging, and long-range make it one of the most advanced electric SUVs available today. However, the software bugs and high price hold it back from being the perfect EV. Lucid is on the right track, and if they can resolve these issues, the Gravity could become a true game-changer in the electric vehicle market.
