Rivian has confirmed the release of its next electric model, the Rivian R2 SUV, scheduled to arrive in early 2026. The R2 is smaller and more affordable than the R1S, with a starting price of $44,900 USD.
With a compact frame and simplified design, the R2 targets young families and urban commuters looking for an eco-friendly upgrade.
What to Expect from the Rivian R2 SUV
While specs are still being finalized, Rivian confirmed the R2 SUV will offer:
- Range options between 250–350 miles
- Dual- and single-motor variants
- Off-road-ready features
- Over-the-air software updates
The vehicle will support both CCS and NACS charging ports, thanks to Rivian’s deal with Tesla.
Rivian’s Strategy and Market Goals
The Rivian R2 SUV will be produced at the company’s new factory in Georgia. Rivian aims to produce 200,000 units per year, positioning the R2 as its first mass-market electric vehicle.
With this launch, Rivian is competing directly with the Tesla Model Y, Ford Mustang Mach-E, and Hyundai Ioniq 5.
