Norway’s electric vehicle market hit another milestone in June, with the Tesla Model Y firmly cementing its lead.
Record-High EV Market Share
According to the Norwegian Public Roads Administration (OFV):
- 17,799 new electric cars were registered in June, making up 96.9% of all new vehicle sales (18,376 total).

- June EV registrations increased by 3,790 units year-on-year and 4,415 units over May 2025.
The average CO2 emissions per newly registered car fell to 3.5 grams per kilometre—a new record low.
Combustion and Hybrid Sales Decline Sharply

- 57 petrol cars (0.3% market share)
Year to date, hybrids fell from 17% to 2% market share.

Sales Boost from Incentives
OFV Director Øyvind Solberg Thorsen explained the surge:
“Several campaigns with zero or very low interest rates have significantly boosted sales. Norges Bank’s first interest rate cut is helping many people buy their dream car.”
Market Growth Highlights:
- 75,515 new cars sold in H1 2025, a 23% increase over the same period in 2024.
Competition Expected to Intensify
While Tesla continues to dominate, Thorsen warned that competition is growing:
“New models and brands are coming quickly. Many combine price, equipment, space, and range in a way that will create fierce competition.”
Whether Tesla can maintain its leading position remains an open question as the Norwegian EV market evolves.
