Nio’s new electric car brand, Onvo, has officially launched the L90, a full-size electric SUV aimed at larger families. New electric cars debut almost weekly; however, the L90 stands out for one major reason: its price. With a battery rental plan, the L90 starts at just RMB 179,800, or roughly €21,300. That’s even less than the Renault 5 in Europe.
Unlike compact SUVs, the Onvo L90 is a true full-size model. It measures 5,145 mm in length, 1,998 mm in width, and 1,786 mm in height, with a 3,110 mm wheelbase. As a result, it offers a spacious cabin with either six or seven seats.
The exterior includes the brand’s signature split headlights and a sleek silhouette. Consequently, it achieves a drag coefficient of 0.25, which improves efficiency. Onvo is clearly targeting buyers who need space, practicality, and modern technology without a premium price.
One standout feature is the front trunk—or “frunk.” Onvo heavily promotes this 240-liter compartment. According to the company, it can hold two 20-inch suitcases and a child’s bag—or even a 30-inch suitcase.
For everyday use, it’s designed to accommodate a week’s worth of groceries for a family. At the rear, the trunk provides 430 liters of space, including a 106-liter hidden compartment beneath the floor. This highlights Onvo’s focus on usable, family-oriented space.

Inside, comfort takes center stage. The front seats come with 12-way power adjustments. Second-row passengers can enjoy optional zero-gravity seats, 10-way adjustments, and aviation-style headrests. Even better, the third row offers 962 mm of headroom and reclining backrests with up to 38 degrees of tilt.
To enhance convenience, the L90 includes a built-in refrigerator. It holds 12 soda cans and maintains temperatures between 0 and 50°C. Entertainment-wise, a 17.3-inch 3K screen folds down from the ceiling, while rear passengers get an 8-inch screen. The 23-speaker, 2,048-watt sound system is Dolby Atmos certified, promising immersive audio.
Built on a 900-volt architecture, the L90 enables ultra-fast charging. With an 85 kWh battery, it can recharge from 10% to 80% in just 25 minutes.
In terms of range, the rear-wheel-drive model is CLTC-rated at 605 km, while the all-wheel-drive version offers 570 km. Both use the same 340 kW (456 hp) rear motor found in Nio’s flagship ET9 sedan. As a result, the RWD model accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds, while the AWD version—with an added 100 kW front motor—does it in just 4.7 seconds.
All this comes at a surprisingly low price, challenging more expensive competitors. For instance, the Li Auto i8 starts at RMB 321,800 (€38,270). In contrast, the L90 (with battery) starts at RMB 265,800 (€31,600).
Version | Price | Price with €107/month battery rental |
---|---|---|
6-seater Pro | €31,800 | €21,300 |
6-seater Max | €33,200 | €23,000 |
6-seater Ultra | €35,600 | €25,400 |
7-seater Pro | €32,300 | €22,000 |
7-seater Max | €33,900 | €23,700 |
7-seater Ultra | €35,600 | €25,400 |
Following the i8’s price announcement, Li Auto’s stock price dropped. In contrast, even the highest-end Onvo L90 costs less than the base model of the Li Auto i8. Clearly, Onvo is setting a new standard for affordability and performance in the large SUV EV segment.
