Ford Mustang Mach-E drives record sales
The Ford Mustang Mach-E just had its strongest sales month ever. In August, Ford sold 7,226 units of the crossover, a 35.3% increase compared to last year. This marks the highest monthly total for the Mach-E since its launch in late 2020, cementing its status as one of America’s most popular electric crossovers.
Overall, Ford’s EV lineup sold 10,671 units in August, representing 19.3% year-over-year growth. Alongside the Mach-E’s record, the F-150 Lightning also posted strong numbers with 3,217 units sold, a 21.2% increase. However, sales of the E-Transit cargo van fell sharply, plunging 76% to just 228 units.
Updates boost Ford EV appeal
Despite being over four years old, the Ford Mustang Mach-E continues to hold its ground thanks to significant updates. The refreshed 2026 model, built in Mexico, became more affordable this year even with new tariffs. It now includes a standard heat pump for better range in cold weather and the latest BlueCruise ADAS system, which supports automatic lane changes.
Ford has also added customer incentives. Since last year, the company has offered buyers a complimentary Level 2 home charger with installation, making EV ownership more accessible. These improvements have kept demand for Ford’s EVs steady despite intensifying competition.

Hybrids and future strategy
Ford’s hybrid sales also climbed in August, rising 14.5% to 18,773 units. When combined with EVs and plug-in hybrids, the company sold 29,444 electrified vehicles, reflecting a 16.2% year-over-year increase. Analysts expect the third quarter to deliver record-breaking EV sales as buyers rush to take advantage of the $7,500 federal tax credit before it expires on September 30.
However, Ford recognizes that it cannot rely indefinitely on the Ford Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning. After delays and financial setbacks, the automaker is preparing a new electric truck. Due in 2027, the truck will start at around $30,000, use a new architecture, and feature radically different manufacturing processes.
This upcoming model represents a critical reset for Ford as it seeks to remain competitive in a post-tax-credit EV market. For now, the Mustang Mach-E’s record performance proves that Ford’s electrification strategy still resonates strongly with customers.
