The BYD Atto 3 is a compact electric SUV that blends eye-catching design, competitive specifications, and strong value. Although it is no longer available in some regions, it continues to stand out for its safety, practicality, and modern technology, though some limitations exist in charging speed and real-world range.

Performance & Range

Equipped with a 150 kW front motor producing around 201 hp, the Atto 3 accelerates from 0–62 mph in approximately 7.3 seconds and reaches a top speed of about 99 mph. Its 60.5 kWh Blade battery delivers a claimed WLTP range of around 420 km, depending on driving style and conditions.

Independent real-world testing, however, shows that the Atto 3 may achieve closer to 369 km on a full charge, which is around 23% less than its advertised figure. This is important for buyers planning frequent long-distance travel.

Battery & Charging

The BYD Atto 3 uses the brand’s proprietary Blade LFP battery technology with a 400 V architecture. AC charging is supported at 7–11 kW, while DC fast charging reaches between 70–88 kW. Under optimal conditions, a 30–80% charge can be completed in about 29 minutes.

Interior & Practicality

The interior design is unique, featuring a rotating 12.8-inch touchscreen, a panoramic sunroof, heated seats, and bold styling cues inspired by gym equipment. Boot capacity is 440 litres with the rear seats upright and expands to 1,338 litres when folded. This makes it a practical choice for daily use and weekend trips.

Safety & Awards

Safety is a strong point, with a 5-star Euro NCAP rating that reflects excellent occupant protection. The model has been recognised for value and performance, winning multiple industry awards, including EV of the Year in its price category.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • Distinctive and well-built interior
  • Strong safety credentials
  • Good value for features offered
  • Smooth and comfortable ride

Cons:

  • Real-world range shorter than claimed
  • DC fast charging speed is lower than newer rivals
  • Boot space smaller than some competitors in the class

The BYD Atto 3 is a stylish, safe, and well-equipped electric SUV that delivers a comfortable driving experience and solid everyday practicality. While its real-world range and charging speeds may not match some rivals, it remains a compelling option for buyers seeking value, safety, and standout design in the EV market.
