History
GAC Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. was established on 1 September 2004 as a joint venture between Guangzhou Automobile Group Co., Ltd. (GAC Group) and Toyota Motor Corporation. Initially named Guangzhou Toyota, the company started operations in May 2006 with the production of the Aurion-based Toyota Camry.
The company was renamed GAC Toyota in December 2008 to reflect its affiliation with GAC Group. Since its inception, GAC Toyota has expanded its production capabilities and introduced various models into the Chinese market. As of June 2010, the company employed over 6,800 employees and occupied an area of 1.87 million square meters, with a construction area of 440,000 square meters.
