History
The Firefly brand officially debuted in China on December 21, 2024, at the Nio Day 2024 event. Nio’s CEO, William Li, positioned Firefly as a competitor to European premium small car brands such as Smart and Mini. Initially, Nio had planned to introduce Firefly in Europe before China, but European tariffs led to a change in the rollout strategy. The brand’s European launch is now scheduled for the second quarter of 2025, with other global markets to follow.
At the Nio Day 2024 event, former SAIC-GM executive Daniel Jin was introduced as the president of the Firefly brand.
