Arcfox is a Chinese marque of electric passenger cars and SUVs owned by BAIC BluePark, headquartered in Beijing, China. The brand was founded in 2017 and focuses on the development of high-performance electric vehicles.

History

Beginning

In 2017, BAIC Group launched Arcfox as a premium electric vehicle brand. The first model, a microcar called Lite, was designed for the premium city car market.

In March 2019, Arcfox made its global debut at the Geneva Motor Show, signaling its intent to expand beyond China into European markets. The European lineup introduced at Geneva included:

  • Arcfox ECF – a large SUV prototype designed by Walter de Silva (formerly of Volkswagen Group).
  • Arcfox GT – a high-performance supercar presented in both a basic and a Race Edition variant.
Further Development

In 2020, Arcfox shifted its focus to technologically advanced electric crossovers for the Chinese market:

  • May 2020 – Introduction of the mid-size Alpha-T SUV.
  • 2021 – Launch of the full-size Alpha-S crossover, which became the brand’s flagship.
  • 2022 – Arcfox partnered with Huawei, integrating its operating system into Arcfox vehicles.

The brand expanded further in 2023, introducing:

  • September 2023 – Kaola, a compact minivan designed with features tailored for mothers of young children.
  • December 2023 – Alpha-T5, a compact crossover.
  • Spring 2024 – Alpha-S5, Arcfox’s first traditional passenger sedan.

Controversy

On July 24, 2024, an Arcfox αS spontaneously caught fire in Hangzhou. During firefighting efforts, Arcfox staff removed the vehicle’s emblem without the owner’s consent. The next day, Arcfox issued an apology on Weibo, acknowledging the “improper handling of the incident.”
