Xiaomi SU7 payment policy is under fire as early buyers face a surprising demand. The company now requires full payment months ahead of vehicle delivery. This shift has left many customers frustrated and uncertain.
Buyers in China shared concerns on social media. They claim Xiaomi is asking for the remaining balance long before scheduled delivery. Some orders are still 22 to 25 weeks away from shipping, yet customers have already received final payment requests.
Previously, Xiaomi promised buyers they could inspect vehicles before completing payments. Now, the company cites terms in the sales agreement that allow it to demand full payment based on production or sales needs.
Customers face a tough choice. They must either pay the entire price now or risk losing their order and deposit. According to the contract, a delay of more than seven days counts as a breach. Xiaomi can then cancel the order and keep the RMB 5,000 deposit.
This reversal has caused anger among buyers. Many say they had no option but to accept the contract terms. Some believe Xiaomi is trying to reduce the backlog or discourage speculators. Others suspect the move reflects deeper operational issues.
The company has not responded publicly. But this policy change threatens its relationship with early supporters. Xiaomi’s electric vehicles have received praise for design and technology, yet customer experience now clouds its debut.
Success in the EV market demands more than sleek features. Brands must build trust, honor promises, and treat customers fairly. Xiaomi’s future in the automotive world may depend on how it responds to this growing backlash.
