The Jaguar Type 00 EV signals a bold new direction for the brand as it shifts into the ultra-luxury electric vehicle market. Despite the mixed reaction to Jaguar’s recent rebrand and its radical concept debut, the company continues pushing forward. It plans to launch the production version of the Type 00 by 2026 or 2027, marking Jaguar’s first completely new model in over a decade.
Jaguar aims to position the Type 00 EV as a six-figure flagship sedan that rivals the likes of Bentley, Rolls-Royce, and Cadillac. While the concept model carried the “Type 00” name, the production version might adopt another name such as “I-Type,” referencing the electric I-Pace SUV. Either way, this new electric sedan sets the tone for Jaguar’s ultra-premium future.
The concept design left many enthusiasts divided. Even so, Jaguar intends to carry several elements into the final model. Renderings suggest a streamlined luxury sedan with a flat front fascia, a faux grille, and a continuous rear light bar. A fastback-like profile and angular lines add presence and drama. Although early prototypes lacked rear windows, production units may restore them for practicality. Designers at Jaguar remain confident in their creative vision. Chief Creative Officer Gerry McGovern calls the car “a foundation stone” for a family of Jaguars that will “look unlike anything you’ve ever seen.”
Inside, the concept featured a minimalist layout. It showcased full-width folding displays and a striking brass center spine separating the driver and passenger seats. Premium materials like wood, wool, and polished metal filled the cabin. Jaguar may simplify some of these elements in production, but it still intends to deliver a true luxury experience with artisanal detail.
Jaguar confirmed to Autocar that the Jaguar Type 00 EV will produce up to 986 horsepower, far surpassing the base models of the Cadillac Celestiq (655 hp) and Rolls-Royce Spectre (584 hp). Like its competitors, the new Jaguar will likely offer multiple variants with different performance levels. Dual motors and a large battery pack will power the car. The outgoing I-Pace used a 90.0-kWh battery, but the Type 00 is expected to feature something larger—likely over 100 kWh. The Spectre uses a 102.0-kWh pack, and the Celestiq packs in 111.0 kWh.
In terms of range, Jaguar claims the car will reach at least 430 miles (WLTP), which should translate to slightly less under EPA testing. Fortunately, the Type 00 will support ultra-fast charging, restoring 200 miles of range in just 15 minutes. Jaguar also plans to incorporate Formula E racing technology into the production model. According to Managing Director Rawdon Glover, lessons from electric motorsport provide direct innovation for their road cars, making the connection between track and street more seamless than ever before.
Pricing reflects the company’s upmarket shift. Reports suggest a starting price above £100,000 (around $135,000). Top trims could cost significantly more. For comparison, the Bentley Flying Spur starts near $275,000, the Celestiq around $340,000, and the Rolls-Royce Spectre close to $400,000. With these benchmarks in mind, Jaguar intends to compete not on price alone, but on distinctiveness, technology, and artistic design.
Although Jaguar hasn’t confirmed an exact date, it plans to unveil the production model as early as next year. Sales could begin in late 2026 or early 2027. This EV will also set the stage for future electric Jaguars, each meant to appeal to buyers who value exclusivity, design innovation, and sustainable performance.
Ultimately, the Jaguar Type 00 EV doesn’t just represent a new model—it defines Jaguar’s long-term identity. With nearly 1,000 horsepower, extensive range, and an artistic vision, this sedan aims to reset expectations for electric luxury. As more competitors flood the market, Jaguar stakes its future on this bold reinvention.
