Hummer EV: A “Girlie Pop” Favorite?
Electric vehicles (EVs) are often marketed with a heavy focus on male consumers, with high-performance features and masculine aesthetics. But Brittany Gibbons, a TikTok influencer, has decided to change that narrative for the GMC Hummer EV. In her viral TikTok video, she promotes the Hummer EV as the ultimate vehicle for “girlies,” showcasing features that resonate with women’s lifestyles and preferences.
Gibbons’ Take on the Hummer EV’s Key Features
Gibbons begins by humorously breaking down why the Hummer EV is a great fit for women, highlighting its 0-60mph acceleration time of just 3.5 seconds. “Yes, she’s a big girl, but quick!” she says, emphasizing that despite its size, the Hummer doesn’t lag in performance.
The vehicle’s 300-mile range is another feature Gibbons praises, humorously stating, “We do not stop for basic boys or chargers,” implying that the vehicle’s range will keep drivers going without constant stops.
One of the standout features for Gibbons is the ability to remove the Hummer EV’s top. She notes, “For the vibes,” which hints at the car’s versatility for different experiences, be it sunny days or road trips.
Crabwalk Mode and Safety Features
Gibbons also emphasizes the vehicle’s “Crabwalk” mode, which allows the Hummer EV to sidestep obstacles with ease, making parking and navigating tight spaces a breeze. This feature appeals to commuters who want to “sidestep…outta drama and parallel parking.”
The Hummer’s safety features also stood out to her, as she jokingly says, “She got more cameras than an influencer trip to Tulum,” suggesting that the vehicle is equipped with extensive monitoring systems to ensure safety.
Female-Centric Features: Storage, Cupholders, and More
Storage capacity is another reason Gibbons is considering the Hummer EV for her next purchase. With “literally stupid amounts of storage,” she demonstrated how the vehicle’s large trunk and frunk (front trunk) offer ample space, even joking that it’s “bigger than a Uhaul.”
Another notable perk: “This is a 6-cup vehicle,” Gibbons points out, referring to the numerous cupholders throughout the car, ideal for beverages during long drives.
A Step Toward More Inclusive EV Marketing
Historically, the EV market has been dominated by male-focused marketing, with manufacturers often emphasizing performance metrics and technology. However, as Gibbons points out, it’s time to move beyond the traditional image of EVs as “manly” cars. By showcasing the Hummer EV through a female-centric lens, she’s pushing for a shift in how these vehicles are marketed.
Research shows that men still represent the majority of EV buyers. In fact, 71% of fully electric vehicles are owned by men, with women largely absent from the marketing campaigns. By tailoring the messaging to women and addressing their specific preferences—such as safety, ease of driving, and storage capacity—automakers can tap into an untapped market segment.
Is the Hummer EV a Good Buy for Women?
Gibbons’ TikTok video has sparked interest in the Hummer EV’s appeal to women. Though some may argue that a 9,000-pound vehicle isn’t ideal for every woman, Gibbons’s playful and lighthearted promotion offers a new angle on how the car can fit into modern female lifestyles.
The Hummer EV has also seen price reductions since its initial launch. While its MSRP was once considered prohibitively expensive, used models are now available at prices starting at around $59,795.
However, prospective buyers should be aware of some reported issues, including problems with the battery management system and recalls related to water accumulation in the high-voltage battery pack.
Despite these issues, the Hummer EV remains a top contender for women seeking a powerful, versatile, and fun EV that doesn’t compromise on performance or style.
