The Chevrolet Silverado EV Trail Boss range has impressed critics by proving that off-road strength and long-distance endurance can work together. Truck buyers often assume they must choose between rugged looks or maximum efficiency. The 2026 Trail Boss shows that this trade-off may no longer apply.
Both the Silverado EV LT and the Trail Boss carry a massive 205 kWh Max Range battery. Each truck has an official EPA rating of 769 km. Many doubted whether the Trail Boss could achieve that number with its lifted suspension and 35-inch all-terrain tires. Such equipment usually cuts efficiency. The question remained: would those numbers hold up in real highway driving?
To find out, Out of Spec Testing ran a simple but demanding trial. They charged a Trail Boss to 100% and then drove it at a steady 113 km/h until it could no longer keep that speed. The display at the start showed 745 km of estimated range. With climate control running, the test began.
At half a battery, the Silverado had already traveled 340 km. That meant an efficiency of 2.1 miles per kilowatt-hour. For a truck with its size and shape, this figure was remarkable. The run continued until the gauge hit zero, but the vehicle still carried on.
The final result was 731 km before it could no longer hold 113 km/h. That is only 24 miles short of the EPA rating. Many EVs fall much further behind in highway testing, which made this outcome especially notable.
The biggest surprise was the hidden reserve. Even after the screen showed zero, the Trail Boss drove another 80 km. This large buffer provides reassurance to drivers who fear running out of charge.
Chevrolet also built in smart alerts. Drivers saw the first warning at 7% battery, followed by “Turtle Mode” under five miles of range. Even then, the truck maintained highway speeds, though it disabled cruise control. These features give drivers confidence and reduce stress during long trips.
The Chevrolet Silverado EV Trail Boss range shows that an off-road EV can be a serious long-haul machine. With its oversized battery, efficient design, and hidden reserve, the Trail Boss sets a new standard. It could persuade more traditional truck owners that electric trucks are ready for both work and adventure.
