The GLC EV grille pixels mark a bold new direction in Mercedes-Benz design. The company is ditching dark grilles and embracing bright, animated displays that redefine its visual identity.
The GLC EV will debut this redesigned grille, which includes a wide chrome frame, a smoked-glass lattice, and subtle contour lighting. However, the premium version takes it a step further. It adds an astonishing 942 illuminated pixels, each capable of animation. The central star and its contour also glow, adding a futuristic touch.
Mercedes-Benz Chief Designer Gorden Wagener described the grille as “a face for the future.” He called it “a perfect fusion of classic design and modern tech,” emphasizing that it will help the brand stand out. The design follows the company’s “Sensual Purity” language, blending heritage with innovation.
Inspired by older models like the 600 Pullman and S-Class, the grille combines tradition with new technology. It creates a unique signature look for the upcoming electric crossover. According to Mercedes-Benz, this grille helps define a new era for the brand.
Other Mercedes models, including gas-powered ones, will adopt similar grilles. The complete version of the GLC EV grille pixels will be unveiled at the IAA Mobility Show in Munich on September 7, 2025.
Mercedes hopes this visual shift will boost interest in its EVs. Previous models, while solid performers, have struggled in the market. The illuminated grille, however, offers a powerful brand signal and a memorable road presence.
In short, GLC EV grille pixels turn the car into more than transportation. They make it a bold statement of style and technological ambition.
