The Honda WN7 Electric Bike is set to become Honda’s first full-sized electric motorcycle. Scheduled to enter production in late 2025, the WN7 represents Honda’s cautious entry into the electric two-wheeler segment. Despite the bold step, early reactions suggest the model may not live up to the legacy of Honda’s most iconic nameplates.
A Name That Raises Questions
Honda has a history of strong branding with names like Rebel, Fury, and Gold Wing. By comparison, WN7 feels less memorable. The letters and number do carry meaning for Honda engineers. The “W” comes from the development motto Be the Wind. The “N” signals the naked-bike style, while “7” denotes the machine’s power class. Even with this explanation, the name risks being quickly forgotten outside of enthusiast circles.
From Concept to Production
The WN7 takes its styling cues from the EV FUN concept unveiled at the 2024 EICMA show. Its slim frame and futuristic lines echo Honda’s design DNA while leaving no doubt about its electric identity. Instead of an engine, the bike houses a fixed lithium-ion battery.
This pack delivers up to 81 miles (130 km) of range. Although modest, such numbers remain typical in the electric motorcycle world. Charging is supported through CCS2 car outlets, allowing a 20% to 80% top-up in 30 minutes. A household outlet, however, requires about three hours for a full charge.
Power and Performance
An 18 kW water-cooled motor powers the Honda WN7 Electric Bike. Honda claims its performance is comparable to a 600cc internal combustion motorcycle. Interestingly, the bike produces 100 Nm of torque—figures usually reserved for 1,000cc ICE machines. At 217 kg (478 pounds), the WN7 offers accessible handling but falls short of delivering groundbreaking range.
Honda also announced a detuned 11 kW version designed for A1 license holders, widening the bike’s appeal in entry-level markets.
Features and Pricing
The WN7 comes with modern equipment, including a five-inch TFT screen with RoadSync connectivity and LED lighting front and rear. In the UK, pricing begins at £12,999, which converts to roughly $17,500. As a promotional offer, early buyers who place orders before November 4 will receive a seat bag at no extra cost. Deliveries are expected to begin in early 2026.
Market Impact Still Unclear
Honda has promised to reveal full specifications of the Honda WN7 Electric Bike at the 2025 EICMA show in Milan. The debut will be a crucial moment for the model, which arrives in a market where electric motorcycles remain niche despite growing EV adoption in cars.
The WN7 shows Honda’s willingness to embrace electrification, but expectations are high. Whether this motorcycle can achieve the same influence as Honda’s ICE icons—machines that have collectively sold over 500 million units in the company’s 75-year history—remains uncertain.
